Why is Blogging so Important for Your Business?

As a business owner or entrepreneur, you’ve most likely heard over and over again that blogging should be a part of your marketing plan, right?  But as a business owner or entrepreneur, you wear many different hats so blogging is quite possibly somewhere near the bottom of your list.  I’m here to tell you why it shouldn’t be.

The most important reason you should be blogging?  You’ve put a lot of time and effort into building your business from the ground up.  You’ve started using social media sites to connect with customers.  But blogging continues to be proven as more influential than just using Facebook or Twitter alone.  Blogging enables you to put a face to your company; it shows that there is a human behind the brand and this helps to differentiate  you from your competition as well as making you seem more trust-worthy. Maintaining a blog requires personal effort, and requires a person to write it.   This may seem a simple point, but in a world where automated messages are taking over simple human interaction, a clear vision of the person behind the business can have a powerful impact.   When a customer is uncertain about which professional to choose for a particular need, reassurance that you are, in fact, human – as obvious as that seems – makes you far more relatable to the customer.

Blogging also enables you to show you are an expert in your field.  Blogging consists of publishing regular articles on a subject you’re knowledgeable about. By writing quality, remarkable content, you are building up your reputation as a thought leader in the community.  Don’t just put out articles related to your field though.  Include accounts of your day to day business life, photos and anecdotes – this will show your readers how skilled you are in your area of expertise which raises their confidence in you as well as building trust.

Finally, blogging has been proven to be a successful marketing tool for businesses. A combination of social media and blogging is the best option for any type of business.  The next step?  Deciding where you want to blog.  We will discuss the different blogging platforms that are out there on my next blog, so stay tuned!
